Keeping Track of our Backyard Birds

I love activities that help us see the excitement in every day life.  Lately, keeping track of our backyard bird varieties has helped us do that. Every time we spot a new one, I pull out the bird identification books, and we all start thumbing through them until somebody finds it.  Then we hop onto the internet and print off a picture of that kind of bird and mod podge it to the eaves of our back patio.

We have been on a bird kick, too!
I found this: http://www.birdzilla.com/nifty-fifty/texas.html helpful (the most popular birds in texas) and am planning on making this journal: http://bringinguplearners.com/2008/01/28/homeschool-hacking-tips-make-your-own-nature-journal/.

I sure wish we could attract some purple martins! I have been keeping an eye out at the Dump's recycle center for a really long pole in hopes of finding one and trying to talk hubby into starting the purple martin project with me.

Ooooh! I love this idea! I'm always identifying birds and trying to teach them to my kiddos...I love the idea of displaying them right where everyone can see them and compare the birds they see to the pictures!
