Cheap and Easy Laminating

My mother taught me this trick: for small items that need to be laminated, packing tape works great! Laminating can be really expensive, but packing tape is cheap. It's also clearer and easier to use than contact paper.

Even when an item is a little wider than the tape, you can sometimes get away with using several strips side by side like I've done here for a diaper bag tag that I made a couple days ago. It does make for a faint line down the middle, but it's really not that noticeable.
To see other projects where I've used this method see here and here.

Thanks for the tip! I've been thinking about making a toddler safe family album. It would be nice to be able to make it with things I have around the house. I hope it works.

What a clever idea, and so simple! Thanks for the great tip :) I think I'll laminate my family's photo and put it on my key chain.

I like the laminated picture with the name on the tag. That way if someone finds the bag they might be able to recognize you!

You never included how to do this. :\

ooops, sorry Jess.  What I do is cut off a strip of packing tape about a half an inch longer than the object to be covered, place the object in the center of the tape, cut another piece of tape the same length and carefully lay it down with it's sticky side facing the sticky side of the other tape.  Then I cut away the excess tape with scissors (a bad pair of scissors because the goo is NOT good for the blades)
