Carnival Carrots

We just planted these colorful carrots in our fall garden. I think it will be fun to let M guess what color each carrot will be before she pulls them up!

There are just a few months left of gardening here before the cold, but I've been thinking lately about what to plant in the spring. Does anybody have any recommendations for plants that are especially fun to grow with children?

Those carrots look really cool!

I always enjoyed watching peas grow as a kid - and I love eating them!

Those carrots are great! My kids always love growing cherry tomatoes. They are easy for them to harvest and rarely make it into the house.

Herbs are quick and easy to grow and kids can have fun cutting up mint to put in iced tea, or chopping the basil for the spaghetti sauce. Sunflowers are an obvious but fun choice. And, I always had a good time digging up potatoes!

Those look neat! However, "a few months left of gardening before the cold weather"??? I wish!! Where I live (Alberta, Canada) our growing season is almost totally over already. We have had frost warnings overnight! I'm jealous :)

POPCORN! It is the same as corn, but when you harvest it, you can let the entire cob with kernels on it dry out and then stick it with a cover over it in the microwave and the popcorn pops off of the cob. It is sooooo cool. Kids learn where popcorn comes from, it tastes yummy and it is way neat.
